Scientists examined their brains (fMRI) and blood (proteomics, metabolomics, RNA) before and after practice.

🔹 Co odkryto?

Brain: meditation silenced the default mode network - the part responsible for internal dialogue and the sense of "I". It also reduced connectivity in the "salience" network, associated with assessing and responding to stimuli. Effect? Less thinking, more presence.

Neuroplasticity: after a week, the levels of proteins supporting neuronal growth (including BDNF, SLITRK1, NGFR) increased in the participants' blood. This means that the body learns to function in a state of harmony, not stress.

Immune system: inflammatory and anti-inflammatory markers were activated simultaneously - which suggests dynamic balance, tissue renewal and repair.

Endorfiny: the levels of beta-endorphins and dynorphins - natural painkillers and "happiness molecules" - increased.

Brain metabolites: the metabolism of tryptophan (a precursor of serotonin) and phenylalanine (a precursor of dopamine) has changed - which may explain the feeling mystical unity and inner peace described by participants.

🧠 A change at the level of consciousness

The authors of the study explain that trzy elementy – belief work, open healing ritual and meditation – work together as a “reset” of the brain's prediction system.
Reconceptualization changes our beliefs about ourselves, ritual opens us to a new experience, and meditation quiets the thinking process itself.
